The Advanced Placement (AP) Summer Institute is a subject-specific professional development opportunity. It provides teachers with the support and training needed to teach AP courses and to utilize AP teaching strategies. Teachers from West Virginia, as well as other states, come together at this institute to learn techniques and tactics for teaching. Participants also engage in discussion and exchange ideas and information with peers about AP courses and exams.
Topics that are often covered in AP Summer Institute sessions include:
· AP courses: goals, objectives, content, resources, bibliographies, and equipment
· The AP Examination: how it is developed and graded
· Syllabi, lesson plans, and assignments
· How to refresh and improve existing AP courses
· Recent changes in AP course descriptions

Steven Schuh teaches all levels of physics at The Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities. Since joining the Academy, he has been awarded Meritorious distinction for both Service and Teaching, and has been listed several times with Who’s Who Among American Teachers.
