Title: Becoming a Learning School

Author: Joellen Killion and Particia Roy

“Becoming a Learning School” by Joellen Killion and Patricia Roy is an excellent resource for all school leaders. This study will focus on seven chapters of the book while reviewing its resources for tools, ideas, and research-based strategies for creating learning communities whose focus is the improved learning of all students.

The book study will be moderated by an experienced West Virginia administrator, and participants will be asked to make postings in response to questions based on their reading and also make postings in response to the postings of their peers.

Upon registering, principals will receive an email confirmation and a copy of the text by mail, along with a guide about how to participate in the online book study. Moderators and WVCPD staff will provide guidance and technical assistance.


Cost:
The registration fee is $25 per person. The registration fee must be paid online, by check or by purchase order in order to receive the book and log in information. The $25 registration fee covers only a portion of the cost of the book you will receive.

Requirements:
Requirements: The book study is nine weeks in duration, with assignments due approximately every week on Monday (except for summer break the week of Jun 27-July 4th). Seven assignments must be completed, and all postings must be completed by the end of the study in order to be eligible to receive clock hour credit for the study. No partial credit will be awarded. Principals who complete the requirements of the study on time will be awarded fifteen clock hours toward experienced principals’ 45 required hours of required professional development every six years. Five hours will be awarded under the “vision” standard, five hours will be awarded under the “school culture/instruction” standard, and five hours will be awarded under the “management/environment” standard.

Audience:
This session is designed for experienced principals who have already completed the Principals’ Leadership Academy for New Principals.
