Session: Web Tools to Encourage and Support Reading and Writing

The Web Tools to Encourage and Support Reading and Writing professional development is a six week online course designed by WVCPD’s Infusing Technology program. Today’s students are “digital natives” and by incorporating technology into reading and writing instruction, students will be more engaged and attentive to the process. Technology can be an excellent tool for differentiating instruction. The digital tools that will be covered can make reading more accessible and engaging for students across content areas and grade levels. There are amazing free web tools to adjust lexile levels while providing the same non-fiction content to all the students. Digital storytelling, journaling and blogging can be used in almost every content area and encourage writing by providing a way to share work digitally. Reading and writing are essential to every content area. All of the web resources covered in this course will provide teachers with options that will increase accessibility and engagement for all their students.

There are six sessions in the Infusing Technology Online series. This series will run from August 2017 – March 2018. To apply for graduate credit, you need to successfully complete three of the six sessions scoring 80% or above. For more detailed information on the other sessions, please see the Infusing Technology section of the website.

The registration fee is $25 per person. The registration fee must be paid online, by check or by purchase order in order to receive the log in information.
